Vata Constitution

Tastes: Increased by Bitter Pungent Astringent

Season: Accumulates in June and aggravates in Rainy season.

Avoid too much fasting/dieting.

Overuse of Melon – Increases V& K so add Fennel, Clove and Black Pepper.

Even if Meats / High Protein are properly digested, long term use always increases VATA, since residue of protein digestion add to body's nitrogenous waste burden

VP should be cautious of spices – fennel, Asafoetida, Mustard seeds, (avoid coriander)

V people are prone to addiction



Pitta Constitution

Seasons: Accumulates in Rainy Aggravates – October

Pacified -Sweet Bitter Astringent

Aggravated - Sour, Salty, Pungent

Should Avoid Meat, Eggs, Sour, Salty, Pungent, foods and Alcohol. All these substances augment Pitta's naturally aggressive and compulsive tendencies

Grains, fruits, and vegetables cool the pitta heat and should form the majority of pitta diet.

Meats – Chicken, Turkey

Legumes – Small Amounts, Except – red and Yellow

Best – Black Lentils, chickpeas, moong beans and Tofu

Oil – Large – Coconut

Small – Almond / Flaxseed Oil

Dairy – Milk, unsalted butter, Ghee

No yogurt. If you need to have yogurt add Cinnamon/ coriander.

Sweeteners – Relived by sweets ( no Molasses)

Spices – Cardamon, Cinnamon, coriander, fennel, turmeric, and a small amount of cumin and black pepper.

Banana- Even though sweet and reportedly help cure ulcers, they have a sour post digestive property and should not be eaten regularly by P-type  

Kapha Constitution

Meats – Baked, Roasted, Broil – no Frying


Avoid – Black lentils, Kidney bean, soybean

Best – Black bean, moong, pinto, red lentil

Nuts – Do not team

Sunflower and pumpkin seeds ( occasionally)

Oils – best avoided

Almond, corn, sunflower, saffron

Dairy – Goats milk

Sweetness –K Increased by sweets so rather avoid

Use Raw honey only.

Spices – All spices

Ginger and Garlic best

Black tea is good

Coffee occasionally acceptable.
